Community Engagement Basics (Local Government)

This course compressed the three-day Community Engagement 101 programme into two days.

The updated legislative requirements in Part 6 of the Local Government Act relating to significance and engagement policies have been incorporated into this course.

The course structure is based on learning the basics of community engagement on the first day and developing a community engagement plan on the second day.

Participants are encouraged to bring to this course a real project that can be used in developing their community engagement plan.

The course covers:
  • What is community engagement
  • Why is community engagement important
  • Legal compliance and community engagement
  • The engagement mindset
  • Who is "the community"
  • What is in the community engagement toolbox
  • The importance of planning for community engagement
  • How to build a community engagement strategy
  • Engaging online.
